Come for a swim, stay for the night.
Kai Beach Club in Weligama is built around a huge lagoon-style pool that winds its way down towards the beach. Palm trees everywhere, a pool bar under a thatched roof, and the ocean right behind it all.
We spent the day moving between the pool, the shaded terrace and the table. Lunch was a proper spread to share, with pizza, lasagna and fried rice, and when the sun went down the pool lit up and we switched to cocktails.
Tip: come in the afternoon and stay into the evening. The place changes completely once the lights come on.
